Is there a man of God in the city?

There is a man of God in the city — July 23, 2017

1 Samuel 9:1-6  NAS 1 Now there was a man of Benjamin whose name was Kish the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Becorath, the son of Aphiah, the son of a Benjamite, a mighty man of valor.  2 And he had a son whose name was Saul, a choice and handsome man, and there was not a more handsome person than he among the sons of Israel; from his shoulders and up he was taller than any of the people.  3 Now the donkeys of Kish, Saul's father, were lost. So Kish said to his son Saul, "Take now with you one of the servants, and arise, go search for the donkeys."  4 And he passed through the hill country of Ephraim and passed through the land of Shalishah, but they did not find them. Then they passed through the land of Shaalim, but they were not there. Then he passed through the land of the Benjamites, but they did not find them5 When they came to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant who was with him, "Come, and let us return, lest my father cease to be concerned about the donkeys and become anxious for us."  6 And he said to him, "Behold now, there is a man of God in this city, and the man is held in honor; all that he says surely comes true. Now let us go there, perhaps he can tell us about our journey on which we have set out."

Do they know who you are; can they tell you have been with God?

  • Characteristics of men/people of God. Bringing Truth, Discernment, Prophetic in that they hear from God, Healing, Delivering, Etc.
  • Blessings men/people of God bring: They are salt of the earth, light of the world, healing to society, wisdom to the hearers, soothing to the troubled.

Are you known as a man/woman of God? Can people look to you for a right word?

  • God has his ways to get you to the right people and He also has his ways of getting the right people to you.
  • Sometimes God shoos our prized donkeys away from us so we can get to the man of God and/or the man of God can get to us.
  • Don’t get so concerned over the lost donkeys that you fail to see what the process is really about.
  • Often it is in the search of finding the “donkeys” that we find and take hold of the most important thing that is missing.
  • Saul’s father’s donkeys were not nearly as important as what God has for Saul to find. Sometimes God leads us down strange paths to get us to the right place and the right person.
  • Saul was ready to forget traveling and searching for his dad’s donkeys because he knew his dads heart would be more concerned for him than his property of donkeys.
  • Sometimes God allows us to exhaust our efforts of searching and trying so that we know nothing except the miraculous word and power of God.
  • Don’t be afraid to seek out council from a person of the Spirit.

Someone says, “There is a man of God in the city that we could ask for a word on the matter. God gives wisdom, truth and discernment to those who have been with him. We will speak by his Spirit.

John 15:26-27  "When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, He will bear witness of Me,  27 and you will bear witness also, because you have been with Me from the beginning.

“Having been with the Lord, or the Lord having been with them” means, they had his Spirit, wisdom and power abiding within them and they would witness his words of truths.

You and I will not get everything we need apart from community and the body of Christ. All through the Scripture God uses people to bring instructions and confirmations of his will to others. It’s not “me and Jesus got our own thing going and we don’t need anybody to tell us what it’s all about.”  Saul of Tarsus who later became one of the chief apostles needed someone to lay hands on him to receive the Holy Spirit.  Saul of Tarsus saw Jesus but Jesus instructed him to go to a certain street and a certain person (Ananias) to get some help, receive the baptism of the holy Spirit and free him of physical blindness. God has always partnered with people! (Acts 22)

Gen 41, Pharaoh dreamed a dreamJoseph was searched out to interpret the dream. Daniel chapter 1-3. King  Nebuchadnezzar had a dream and God sent Daniel to interpret the dream and bring wisdom to the king

May I tell you, God has a man; God has a woman with his word in their mouth!

Throughout the Scriptures God’s hand is recognized on men and women of God. Even the fear of the Lord had fallen on people and they were afraid of putting their hand against the people of God because they knew they had been with God and God was with them to fight for them, speak to them and protect them. There was Jacob whom God was with. (Genesis 35:1-20)

There was Moses, the leader and the people of Israel. It was evident to all the people around that God had been with Moses and the people to provide and fight for them as they traveled in the wilderness.  (Deuteronomy 2:7)

The people of Israel were feared because of the blessings of the Lord. Their enemies tried to get the prophet to curse God’s people but instead only a blessing came on them.

Because of the blessings and protection of God on his people, heathens like Rahab feared to bring harm against the people of God, she turned  and aligned herself with God and his people and her life was spared when the wall of Jericho fell down as the God’s people marched around it by the command of the Lord and when the walls fell, they  destroyed their enemies and saved Rahab and her entire household.

God says of David2 Samuel 7:8-9  "Now therefore, thus you shall say to My servant David, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, "I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be ruler over My people Israel.  9 "And I have been with you wherever you have gone and have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make you a great name, like the names of the great men who are on the earth.

Not only is there a man/person in the city, but they have a city within them. They have a promise; they have a dream, a vision, an assurance to a better country, a city, a home, a tabernacle. Inside their heart they hold to the promise of a city.
